The holidays are upon us, and in full swing too! But of course, the work of an indie game developer never ceases… though it may slow down. Just a bit. As such, the Dev Update this week is going to be a bit shorter, focused on a singular topic: the User Interface upgrade!

The most important part of this user interface upgrade is that you actually understand what each part does. Clarity! In a later version, we can come back through and get it as stylized as we want, but until then, it’s our primary focus that you can look at it, see every menu, button, and gauge and think, “Yes. I know what this is.” And right now we’re getting it there! After not seeing the progress for quite a while, I was able to take in just about everything I needed to know within just a handful of seconds. That’s the goal!

We just need to make sure that you are able to figure it out that quickly, right? And we need to make sure it stays bug-free! As we implement the new UI assets (and use the new menus more extensively), little bugs are popping up here and there. The upcoming alpha’s job will partially be to help us find new bugs, but we want to clear up any issues before then to minimize redundancy. If you want to see it in action, check out this recent development stream we did! We’ve been using Twitch more and more often to give viewers a look into the behind the scenes action of game development and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

The UI is coming along great, and so is the rest of Alpha 2. Things might be slowing down this week, but we’ll be getting back up to full steam very soon! Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook if you haven’t already! We promise to deliver the latest and greatest Gears of Eden development news as soon as it’s available! Also, consider checking out our Discord, where we hang out on and off the clock! Thank you for reading and have a great rest of your week.
